Stoughton (8/5/2009)
Environmental stewards and renewable energy enthusiasts John and Rebecca Scheller, who are building one of the region's first net zero energy homes, will celebrate the kickoff of their environmentally responsible building project at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12.
A net zero energy home is one that produces at least as much energy as it consumes. Through WPPI Energy's GreenMax Home initiative, the Schellers' net zero energy home will combine renewable energy technologies with advanced energyefficient construction, generating more power than it uses to create a net zero impact on the nation's energy supply. The Schellers' home will raise awareness of the net zero energy home concept while demonstrating affordable, practical ways to save energy and use renewable resources at home.
As models for the efficient use of energy, John and Rebecca Scheller will monitor their energy use and fine-tune their home's performance to ensure that its energy use is truly net zero.
Joining homeowners John and Rebecca Scheller will be:
- WPPI Energy staff
- Stoughton Utilities staff
- Representatives from Shaw Building & Design, Inc.
- Contractors, project partners and other service providers for the home
- Local government officials
The event will feature:
