Tom and Verona Chambers support a sustainable lifestyle and have always had a personal interest in energy efficiency and clean energy technologies. Several years ago, the Chambers discovered a perfect plot of land to build their environmentally friendly home. The site - an amazing acre of land overlooking the Black River with a breathtaking view of the Northwoods - is where the Chambers' contemporary, European-inspired home now exists.
As a result of participating in WPPI Energy's GreenMax Home initiative, the Chambers were able to make smarter decisions about their home construction and focus on incorporating energy efficiency and renewable energy systems into what is now a showcase NZEH.
The Chambers feel very strongly about practicing what they believe. In fact, their passion for the environment influences many of their interests and purchases. For example, the couple tools around town in a Smart Car - a compact, two-seat vehicle known for its fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.
Their commitment to stewardship and social responsibility also carries over to their professions. Tom, principal at Black River Falls High School, and Verona, a teacher at Tomah Middle School, provide the same type of environmental leadership in the classroom so that students understand that Earth-friendly lifestyle choices - no matter the size - can make a big difference toward a cleaner, greener environment.
